Broken Chains Ministry is participating in two May events in conjunction with the City of Green Drug Task Force. Please join us for these free events.
On Sunday, May 1 the Task Force will be honoring Crisis Awareness Sunday with several participating churches to bring awareness to the over 110,000 accidental overdoses in the U.S. in 2021, with 5,300 in Ohio, and 233 in Summit County. Crisis Awareness Sunday will also highlight the phenomena of 350 percent increase in alcohol sales in the U.S. since the start of the pandemic, and related increases in domestic violence and human trafficking.
Open conversations about addiction can help our community address this growing epidemic. Through this event, we seek to de-stigmatize addiction and provide resources for help.
On Saturday, May 14, Dennis Shawhan, our executive director will join an esteemed panel of experts and advocates to discuss the effects of human trafficking.
Human trafficking as a result of substance use disorder is rising rapidly in Ohio according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Ohio currently ranks fourth among the highest call volume to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
This event will feature conversations, questions, and collaboration with both local and national experts, as well as human trafficking survivors. By spreading awareness and shedding light on these challenging issues, we can help protect our communities and celebrate the strength of survivors.
